In May 2012, it was 5.2%.
The public debt is almost stabilized. At the end of 2016, it was 2147 billion euros, an increase of 49 billion euros compared to 60 billion in 2015.
It represents 96% of GDP, against 95.6% at the end of 2015, an increase of 0.4 points. During the five-year term, the public debt will have increased by 6.5 points, compared to 25 points during the previous five-year term.
The public accounts have improved, despite sluggish growth during the first three years of the five-year term, which only began to assert itself over the last two years (1.3% in 2015 and 1.3% in 2016).
However, without reaching the hoped-for levels: 1.5% growth and 3% deficit, even though they were able to benefit from favorable conditions (interest rates at their lowest, falling oil prices, euro-dollar parity).
