Come and enjoy the schooner “Belle Poule,” which is making a stop in Nice until tomorrow at 5 PM.
The “Belle Poule” was built in Normandy, more specifically in Fécamp, in 1932, commissioned by the French Navy. Also known as a “Paimpol schooner,” it has a twin sister, named “Étoile,” built in the same year. Today, the Belle Poule is one of the four sailing school ships of the Navy. Measuring 37.50 meters long and accommodating about fifteen crew members, the Belle Poule takes part in promoting France abroad.
Together with her sister, the Belle Poule participated in World War II with the Free French Naval Forces. They proudly flew the FNFL’s bow flag with the Cross of Lorraine (a flag reserved for warships, displayed on the bowsprit).
Since Tuesday, it has been possible to observe this prestigious ship, moored at the port of the Azorean capital. Arriving from Ajaccio, it has welcomed more than 1,200 visitors during its stay. This week, it docks on the French Riviera. Open to all visitors, come and discover all the secrets of this beautiful French ship. The sailboat offers public visits starting today until tomorrow, Thursday, April 11th, from 10 AM to 12 PM and from 2 PM to 5 PM.
