Halt to the Var Plain Operation, a flagship of Christian Estrosi’s strategy to invigorate the local economy and orient it towards cutting-edge and future-oriented activities.
A laudable goal except that building requires space and choosing between concrete and green… that is indeed the eternal problem.
In fact, opponents have always accused the president of the Metropolis of wanting to hide a vast concreting project behind a dazzling label, Eco-Valley, which, considering the achievements, is not unfounded.
This explains the (vain) political and environmental association opposition to the project.
The 06 Associative Collective for ecological achievements (Capre 06) had filed a legal appeal.
In a judgment dated June 22 but made public yesterday, the Administrative Court annulled the “strategic and operational project” (PSO) of the Var plain eco-valley, considering that this plan adopted in 2015 should have been preceded by a Natura 2000 impact study, as it defines upcoming urban planning operations on this 10,000-hectare territory located in the lower Var valley.
For the president of the environmental association, Sylvie Bonaldi, this judgment “shows that the PSO is a binding urban planning document subject to impact studies and must be compatible with the environmental code.”
In a statement released in the evening, the EPA, for its part, assured that it “was seriously considering the possibility of appealing the judgment rendered.”
The public establishment asserts that “The EPA conducts Natura 2000 impact studies on all the development projects for which it is responsible and the PSO was not listed in the Environmental Code as requiring such an evaluation.”
