On August 27-28, 2024, Nice commemorates a historical moment. Concerts, parades, and ceremonies pay tribute to the bravery of the Resistance fighters. A look back on two days of festivities and remembrance.
Nice is preparing to honor one of the most significant moments in its history. In August 1944, the city was liberated from German occupation. This year, the 80th anniversary of this event will be celebrated with a series of ceremonies and festivities.
Everything begins on August 27 at 6 PM, with a ceremony at Palais Stella, in tribute to the Niรงois Resistance fighters. It will be an opportunity to remember the tragic events that led to the liberation of the city.
A vigil for the heroes
The first day will conclude with a torchlight vigil at 10 PM. At the Monument to the Dead, this solemn ceremony will honor the Resistance fighters who sacrificed their lives for freedom.
A parade of American military vehicles from World War II will lend an authentic touch to this evening of remembrance.
Parade and ceremony
On August 28, the celebrations will resume at 8:30 AM in Saint-Laurent-du-Var, with an official photo and a parade. The convoy will then head towards Nice, where it will proceed down Jean Mรฉdecin Avenue to reach Place Massรฉna.
The afternoon will be marked by an exhibition of historical vehicles and a flyover of vintage aircraft.
The festivities will then conclude with a commemorative ceremony at the Monument to the Dead at 6:30 PM.
