The Albert Malatesta complex will be the stage for the International Women’s Torball Tournament. Organized by ANICES, this event promises exciting encounters in a sport that is still relatively unknown. Mark your calendar for this Saturday, November 30th.
This 9th edition will bring together seven teams from Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and France. Graz (Austria), Dortmund and Stuttgart (Germany), Heidiland (Switzerland), and Bergamo (Italy) will compete against the French teams from Laval and Nice. The Nice team will be playing at home, buoyed by their supporters and ambitions.
This year, the ANICES team (Association Niçoise d’Initiatives Culturelles et Sportives, Editor’s note) has evolved. Alongside the experienced players, new promising recruits have joined the team.
What is Torball?
Torball is an adapted team sport designed for visually impaired or blind people, but open to everyone. Two teams of three players compete on a 16-meter by 7-meter field, throwing a sound ball under taut cords to score in the opposing team’s goal.
Silence is essential so that players can locate the ball by its noise. This sport promotes concentration, listening, and team spirit. Inclusive and accessible, it is also used to raise awareness about visual impairment. Torball is distinguished from goalball by its rules and the dimensions of the field.
A Title to Defend
Last year, the team from Nice won the cup. This victory remains a cherished memory for the players and supporters. This year, the Aiglonnes return to their field with the desire to confirm their standing. Although their historic rival, Toulouse, will not be present, other equally determined teams are ready to challenge them.
The tournament will start at 8:30 AM and will continue until 6:30 PM. Entrance is free for spectators. An audiodescription will be available to allow everyone to follow the matches under the best conditions. A refreshment area will also be available.
Meet at the Albert Malatesta complex, avenue Cyrille Besset in Nice, to support the players and share a moment of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
