This Sunday, OGC Nice hosted Paris FC, as part of the 6th round of Ligue 1. A frustrating match for the Gym (1-1).
The reaction was expected on the side of OGC Nice! After a difficult week marked by two defeats, in Brest (1-4), and against Roma, the Gym had to bounce back this Sunday afternoon. In front of their home crowd, Moรฏse Bombito’s teammates had the opportunity to get back on track against the Parisian newcomer. Regarding the lineup, Franck Haise started Moรฏse Bombito and Mohamed-Ali Cho for the first time this season. Preserved, the Aiglonsโ captain, Dante, was not on the match sheet, just like Melvin Bard, who started on the bench.
As a result, Jonathan Clauss wore the captain’s armband for the first time for OGC Nice. Well set up, the Gym quickly took control of the ball. The first clear chances took time to come. Gradually, the match closed up further, with both teams well positioned. The Aiglons even played with fire, as seen with a poor clearance by Yehvann Diouf, which gave Paris FC an opportunity. Fortunately, there were no consequences!
The Aiglons ahead at halftime
OGC Nice finally capitalized on their good form just before the break. Found by Mohamed-Ali Cho in the Parisian box, Sofiane Diop scored his first goal of the season (1-0, 40โ). This achievement rewarded the efforts of the Moroccan, who was very active in the first half despite some ball losses. Shortly after, Jonathan Clauss came very close to doubling the lead. However, the defender’s volley was miraculously saved by Obed Nkambadio, the Parisian goalkeeper.
Paris FC returned with different intentions from the locker room. Shaken, OGC Nice was less calm. Yehvann Diouf had to work hard in front of Geubbels to maintain the slender advantage. Terem Moffi’s teammates managed the game well but couldnโt seal the match. Consequently, the Gym allowed their opponent to remain in the game.
A penalty revives Paris FC
Leading the score, OGC Nice managed well in the second half. In quick transitions, the reds and blacks didn’t hesitate to push forward at every counterattack opportunity. The only downside: the injury-related departure of Hicham Boudaoui, who was apparently affected muscularly. The Algerian had only been on the pitch for about half an hour at the Allianz Riviera since entering at halftime.
With everything seemingly going well, Nice experienced a strange end to the match. The referee stopped the game momentarily due to a chant deemed homophobic from the BSN. Upon resumption, the Gym conceded a penalty. Jean-Philippe Krasso made no mistake and converted it (1-1, 86โ). Without ever really being dangerous, Paris FC got back into the game. A frustrating situation for the Gym!
The next fixture is on Thursday, October 2, for OGC Nice. The Aiglons will travel to face Fenerbahรงe, as part of the second round of the Europa League. A win is imperative for Nice after the defeat against Roma (1-2). The match will kick off at 18:45 in Istanbul.
