The Nice City Council welcomes a new council member on the day of a new session. Anne-Lise Barral joins the municipal assembly, replacing Aurore Asso.
The Nice City Council welcomes Anne-Lise Barral, a committed entrepreneur from Nice. Coming from an old Nice family, Anne-Lise Barral currently heads BARRAL S.A., a family business founded in 1883 in the port district, specializing in olives and olive oils. This company has been part of the local economic fabric for over a century. The business is embedded in an industrial history linked to the city of Nice and its port.
A graduate of HEC Paris, the new municipal councilor has built a recognized career in the agri-food industry. This career has been structured around taking over and developing the family business.
Anne-Lise Barral has managed to modernize and expand the family business by combining innovation, digital transition, and quality requirements, in a sustainable and responsible economic approach. This approach aligns with the current challenges of transforming agri-food businesses. Environmental issues play a central role in this evolution.
A delegation focused on economy and employment
Within the City Council, alongside Jacques Richier, Anne-Lise Barral will perform the functions of Deputy Delegate for Economy and Employment, in charge of Small and Medium Enterprises. This delegation concerns a key sector of the local economy. SMEs represent a significant portion of Nice’s economic structure.
The mission focuses on supporting, developing, and structuring these businesses. It adheres to a logic of supporting economic activity and employment within the communal territory. The link with the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis is also a central issue of this role.
Upon this appointment, Anne-Lise Barral stated: “Nice runs through my veins. It is an honor to be able to concretely engage in the service of my city, alongside our mayor Christian Estrosi, whom I thank for his trust.”
This arrival is accompanied by a change within the City Council. Anne-Lise Barral succeeds Aurore Asso. The latter was a city councilor for six years within the municipal majority. Aurore Asso held the position of Deputy Delegate for the Coastline, the Sea, and Ecology.
Under her impetus, the Nice Protected Marine Area project was conducted within a demanding framework involving scientists, sea users, the city, the Metropolis, and the State services. This in-depth work, carried out over several years, today allows for the completion of this project. The approach was based on broad and structured consultation.
The Nice Protected Marine Area is indeed entering its final examination phase by the State services, following a comprehensive consultation process. It aims for the approval, within a few days, of two prefectural decrees covering approximately 50 hectares, around two initial pilot sectors: the Promenade des Anglais (Negresco–Magnan) and the Cap de Nice (Pointe des Sans-Culottes).
The municipal majority warmly thanked Aurore Asso for her dedication, constant commitment, and the quality of her work, and wishes her full success in her future endeavors.
