The electoral sequence of the 2026 municipal elections has closed with the results of the second rounds in the Alpes-Maritimes. These highly contested elections took place in a department where many cities had already elected their mayor in the first round.
The second round of the 2026 municipal elections marked the end of a dense electoral sequence in the Alpes-Maritimes. On this final evening, three results were still highly anticipated: Saint-Laurent-du-Var, Villefranche-sur-Mer, and Menton. In these cities, voter turnout remained high, reflecting the importance that voters place on their local issues. The results outline a contrasting landscape, between re-elections, shifts, and confirmations.
Saint-Laurent-du-Var: Joseph Segura regains the lead after a very close contest
In Saint-Laurent-du-Var, the second round led to one of the closest contests in the department. Joseph Segura (LUD), the outgoing mayor, managed to retain his seat with 50.69% of the votes, or 6,805 votes, against Rafael Quessada (LUXD), who garnered 49.31% (6,619 votes). The particularly high turnout for a second round (59.86%) reflects the intensity of the campaign and the local stakes. With this narrow victory, Joseph Segura gains 30 seats on the municipal council and four on the community council, while Rafael Quessada secures nine and one.
Villefranche-sur-Mer: Robert Capelier wins in a fratricidal duel
In Villefranche-sur-Mer, voters chose between two lists from the same political camp. Robert Capelier (LDVD) ultimately won with 51.74% of the votes (1,489 votes), narrowly ahead of Christophe Trojani, who received 48.26% (1,389 votes). The turnout reached 69%, an exceptional level in the department, indicative of a particularly closely watched election. Robert Capelier secures 22 municipal seats as well as the community seat, while Christophe Trojani obtains seven seats.
Menton: Alexandra Masson turns her first-round lead into a mayoral win
In Menton, the first round hinted at a very open second act. Three lists were still in the running following alliances, with Alexandra Masson (LUXD) having led with 36.25% of the votes, in an extremely fragmented political landscape.
The second round did not confirm this dynamic. Alexandra Masson decisively prevailed with 49.09% of the votes, or 7,001 votes, ahead of Sandra Paire (LDVD) allied with Louis Sarkozy, who garnered 34.69% (4,948 votes), and Florent Champion (16.22%, 2,314 votes). The turnout remained high (61.79%), confirming the interest of Menton’s residents in this decisive election. With this victory, Alexandra Masson secures 29 municipal seats and 13 community seats, becoming the new mayor of Menton.
The results already settled in the first round in the rest of the department
From the first round, several major municipalities had already decided. In Cannes, David Lisnard (LDVD) was re-elected with an overwhelming score of 81.11%, confirming a nearly uncontested political dominance. In Antibes, Jean Leonetti (LUD) was also widely re-elected with 66.64% of the votes. In Grasse, Jérôme Viaud (LLR) secured a new term with 57.09% of the votes. In Cagnes-sur-Mer, Bryan Masson (LUXD) created a surprise by winning the mayoralty in the first round with 50.21% of the votes, while in Beausoleil, Gérard Spinelli (LDVD) retained his seat with 54.09%. In these municipalities, the majorities were widely renewed or confirmed, painting an overall stabilized political landscape, even though many other cities in the department also experienced close elections or local realignments.
