OGC Nice long believed they had secured a spectacular victory on Sunday at the Allianz Riviera, before conceding an equalizer in the final seconds against FC Lorient (3-3). In a fast-paced and eventful match, the Eagles showed some impressive offensive qualities but ultimately let two points slip away in a cruel turn of events.
OGC Nice started the match with intensity and quickly imposed their tempo. This promising start was rewarded as early as the 12th minute when Tom Louchet opened the scoring. Well-placed in the box, the Nice striker finished coolly and gave his team a perfect start.
The Eagles continued their dominance and controlled possession, preventing Lorient from settling into the match. A cruel ending for the Eagles
The end of the match was marked by increasingly strong pressure from Lorient and Nice falling back slightly, trying to preserve their advantage. The Eagles continued to create opportunities on the counter but failed to kill off the match.
As time ran out and victory seemed within reach, Lorient finally snatched an equalizer in the 90+5th minute thanks to Noah Cadiou. On one last action, the Lorient midfielder breached the Nice defense and denied Nice a success that was within their grasp.
The Allianz Riviera thus went from joy to frustration in a matter of seconds.
Between offensive satisfaction and defensive regrets
This draw leaves mixed feelings on the Nice side. Offensively, OGC Nice showed quality, with a decisive Tom Louchet and a team capable of scoring three times. But defensively, the Eagles lacked solidity in key moments and paid dearly for their weak spells.
Nice can nevertheless take heart from their ability to dominate long sequences and create chances, while Lorient can be satisfied with having believed in their chances until the end.
A cruel and instructive draw
At the final whistle, the 3-3 draw has a bitter taste for Nice, who led twice with two-goal margins. While the spectacle was there, the Eagles leave with the feeling of having let an important victory slip away.
