The investigation into the attack on businessman Vadim Ermolaev in Monaco is taking on a new dimension. The body of the main suspect, Anastasia Berezovskaya, was found buried near Kiev. The Ukrainian newspaper Ukraïnska Pravda also announces the arrest of two suspects, including an officer from Ukrainian military intelligence.
The investigation into the bomb attack that occurred on June 29 in Monaco continues to reveal new developments. Anastasia Berezovskaya, a 39-year-old Ukrainian national wanted by Interpol for attempted murder, was found dead near Kiev, according to information published by the Ukrainian newspaper Ukraïnska Pravda, which cites sources within law enforcement. The body was discovered buried during the night of July 6-7. According to the same sources, the suspect was shot dead.
The Ukrainian daily also states that Anastasia Berezovskaya was outside Ukraine between March 22, 2025 and July 1, 2026. The suspect reportedly returned to the country only a few days before her death.
Two arrests announced by Ukrainian media
According to Ukraïnska Pravda, two men have already been arrested as part of the investigation into this murder. The investigations target an active officer of the Main Directorate of Intelligence (HUR), attached to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, as well as a former member of law enforcement. The media states it contacted the HUR and the Ukrainian National Police, without response at this stage.
A few hours before these revelations, Ukraïnska Pravda had published the fourth installment of its investigation titled “Monaco Battalion”. The newspaper notably presented images of Vadim Ermolaev in Monaco a few days before the attack that targeted his family.
As a reminder, on June 29, a bomb exploded in front of the businessman’s Monaco apartment, located on Rue du Révérend Père Louis Frolla. Vadim Ermolaev, Ukraine’s 23rd richest person, aged 58, his partner and their 13-year-old son were seriously injured. His partner remains in critical condition after having several limbs amputated.
Monegasque investigators have been pursuing a Ukrainian lead for several days. The investigations notably concern a possible involvement of Ukrainian intelligence services. A former Ukrainian citizen who became Cypriot in 2019, Vadim Ermolaev has been subject to sanctions imposed by Kiev since 2022. Ukrainian authorities notably blame the businessman for continuing to market wines produced in Crimea after Russia’s annexation of the peninsula in 2014. Suspicions also target members of the Ermolaev family in a matter involving fraudulent call centers set up in Dnipro.
Interpol had issued an international wanted notice against Anastasia Berezovskaya after her identification by Monegasque investigators. The investigations had made it possible to establish a route passing through France, Italy and Germany, with possible transit through Austria or Switzerland before returning to Ukraine.
The circumstances of Anastasia Berezovskaya’s death remain unknown. Ukrainian authorities have not officially confirmed the information published by Ukraïnska Pravda, while the investigation opened in Monaco for attempted murder and placement of an explosive device in a public place continues.
