Box office: Joker by Todd Phillips

Latest News

Comfortably settled in the reclining chairs of the Dolby room at Pathé Gare du Sud, we watched Todd Phillips’ event film. The least we can say is that it rightfully earned its Golden Lion in Venice.

In an original story, we follow the transformation of Arthur Flock, a talentless clown mocked and humiliated by life, into Joker, the psychopathic killer who would become Batman’s greatest enemy.

Even though the story takes place in Gotham City, the symbol city of the superhero, we are no longer in the comic book universe. Instead, we are plunged into a thriller that is both psychological and political, where the Joker, masterfully portrayed by Joaquin Phoenix, departs from his destiny as a comic villain to become a witness to a self-destructive society. A kind of icon for the yellow vests.

As a result, the media gets its fair share of criticism, particularly through the demonic character played by the great Robert De Niro. A great film that can reconcile Batman fans with those who specifically dislike this cinematic genre.
