This is one of the classics of cinema, the result of a collaboration between director Fernando Arrabal and Claudine Lagrive. Viva la Muerte was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in the presence of the director and the film’s team.


The film, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival, takes place during the Spanish Civil War and under the Francoist regime.
Fando, a boy around ten years old, seeks to understand why his father disappeared. He later discovers that it was his mother who denounced her antifascist husband.
Disturbed by these revelations, the young boy embarks on a quest to find out what became of his father. In a Spain confined by censorship and religious constraints, young Fando finds himself torn between hatred and love for his mother and the hope of finding his father alive.
The film received applause from the audience, and many spectators made a point of praising the director’s remarkable work.
