The city of Nice has unveiled the program for commemorations of the 10th anniversary of the July 14, 2016 attack. A solemn march, a ceremony presided over by Emmanuel Macron, a concert by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, a drone show and several symbolic tributes will mark three days of remembrance, from July 12 to 14.
Ten years after the July 14, 2016 attack on the Promenade des Anglais, the city of Nice presented the official program of tribute ceremonies. The various events were prepared with victim associations Promenade des Anges, Mémorial des Anges, Life for Nice and Une voie des enfants.
The ceremonies will span three days, before concluding on July 14 with several moments of remembrance on the Promenade des Anglais.
Three days of commemoration in tribute to the victims of the Nice attack
The first tributes will begin on Sunday, July 12 at 9 a.m. with a solemn participatory march. The departure will be from in front of Lenval Hospital. Victims, families, residents of Nice and people from the Côte d’Azur will be able to walk a route of just over two kilometers to the bandstand on the Promenade des Anglais. A laying of flowers will conclude this march.
On Monday, July 13, an interfaith ceremony will take place starting at 4:30 p.m. in the gardens of Villa Masséna. This ceremony will be reserved for victims of the attack and their loved ones, by invitation only. The ceremony will end with the lighting of 86 candles in front of monuments dedicated to the victims, in memory of the 86 people killed in the attack.
On Tuesday, July 14, the national day of commemoration, will begin at 9 a.m. with the military parade organized at Place Masséna.
The memorial ceremony will then begin at 6 p.m., still at Place Masséna, under the presidency of the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron. This ceremony will constitute the central moment of the 10th anniversary commemorations.
Following this official tribute, the public will be able to attend a concert by the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra at 8:30 p.m. at the Théâtre de Verdure.
At 10 p.m., a drone show will take place in the sky of the Promenade des Anglais, between the first pergola and the Trois Palmiers.
The ceremonies will end at 10:34 p.m., the time at which the truck used in the attack had come to a stop. Eighty-six light beams will then be projected into the sky from the Promenade des Anglais to pay tribute to the 86 victims.
Two exhibitions open to the public
Alongside the ceremonies, two exhibitions will be offered to the public. The first will open on July 1 on the Coulée Verte. The second will be inaugurated on July 2 at Villa Masséna, where it will remain visible until July 27. These two exhibitions will allow for the continuation of the work of remembrance undertaken around the victims of the July 14, 2016 attack in Nice.
