Diane Parry qualified for the 2nd round of Wimbledon 2026 on Monday after her victory over local player Francesca Jones. The level quickly stepped up a notch for France’s number 1, who faced Anna Kalinskaya on Wednesday.
In the first set, the Nice native started her match in the best possible way. By breaking Kalinskaya on her first return game, Diane Parry quickly led 4 games to 1. Unfortunately, with notably a shaky serve (7% of points won on second serve), she was slowly caught up and lost the first set 6/4.
Far from being discouraged, the second set started at a flying pace for Diane Parry. Just like in the first set, she broke her opponent right away and led 3 games to 0 in 15 minutes.
Despite a still difficult serve, her flat backhand slice and her intelligence at the net allowed her to clinch the second set 6/3. More dominant, Diane Parry struck notably 16 winners for 7 unforced errors. She also greatly benefited from the Russian’s 5 double faults.
Qualification for the 3rd round was therefore decided in the deciding set between the two players. Just as in the first two sets, it was Diane Parry who gained the advantage at the start of the set. Once again caught up by her opponent, the outcome of the match came down to the decisive super tie break. The Nice player started it well. Leading 8 points to 4, she ultimately lost in the end by conceding the last 6 points. Diane Parry can have regrets, having come just a few points away from victory… Overall in the match, she even won 2 more points than her opponent. In the 3rd round, Russian Anna Kalinskaya will face Swiss player Belinda Bencic.
The last French player remaining, Léolia Jeanjean, will attempt to qualify tomorrow against Daria Snigur.
