He tells his story in song or sings while telling his story. It doesn’t matter. This is called slam. Abd al Malik and Grand Corps Malade introduced this musical style to all corners of France. Abd al Malik does not hesitate to reflect on the world around him, his origins, and the everlasting moral scars. In his song “Gravité,” he presents himself: “I come from a place where everyone relishes being serious. I hurt myself all the time with the sharp edge of pride; I am among those who slowly become their own coffin.” Abd al Malik’s pride leads him to the stage to confront the spotlights and open up. We listen. We ponder. These are stories. They transport us.

After the recent success of Grand Corps Malade at the Lino Ventura Theater, where tickets for the concert quickly sold out, the City of Nice, which is particularly interested in urban culture, notably with its Hip-Hop festival held every April, decided to schedule another major artist of this generation from the projects, ABD AL MALIK.

The concert initially planned for December 4 at 9 PM at the new Bon Voyage venue is finally scheduled for December 4 at 8:30 PM at the Lino Ventura Theater, which, with a capacity of 700 seats, will accommodate a larger audience.

This concert will be free with an invitation. Members of the main hip-hop associative structures in Nice (dance, rap, graffiti) and more broadly, associations involved in the urban culture sector, are invited to this exceptional concert.

The author Abd Al Malik draws his inspiration from the origins of the blues. But his art also directly descends from a whole lineage of personalities who have used their voices in the service of their cultures: the Last Poets, ancestors of hip hop, the renowned poet Gil Scott-Heron, the tormented preacher Al Green, Positive Black Soul with their message of peace from Africa. Like them, Abd Al Malik’s voice is a banner that allows him to convey his message, accompanied by his tolerant morality, an omnipresent desire to move things towards a better world.

The former child of the suburbs of Strasbourg dares to make this observation about the projects where he lived for so long: “the malaise of living goes hand in hand with bursts of laughter, the sharpest minds rub shoulders with the most senseless violence.” Rap, poetry, song, slam, jazz, his music forged in urgency resembles no other; it is unprecedented, modern, and inventive.
