In 2018, the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra embarked on a complete schedule of Ludwig van Beethoven’s symphonic works, which will continue until 2020, the year when the 250th anniversary of his birth will be celebrated.

This year, we will hear three major concertos (the first and third piano concertos and the violin concerto), and four major symphonies: the first, the second, the fourth, and the fifth.

Chronologically, this program will take us from the year 1800, the date of creation of the first symphony, to the year 1808, the date of creation of the fifth.

The first concert of this program took place on the stage of the Nice Opera.

On the program were the Violin Concerto in D major (opus 61) followed by Symphony No. 2 in D major (opus 36).

György G. Ráth, the musical director of the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, remarkably held the baton while the solo violinist was the talented Valeriy Sokolov, stunning in his performance.

The audience applauded wildly at the end of both parts of the program.
