In Nice, the 2008 heatwave plan is ready.

Anticipation, prevention, and solidarity: these are the three key components of the municipal heatwave plan that the city of Nice has decided to implement this year. The first level of the plan defined by the State, the seasonal watch, from June 1st to August 31st, in Nice includes identifying air-conditioned locations and water points. The city has 101 air-conditioned municipal buildings open to the public; 68 air-conditioned private locations open to the public; 38 refreshed religious sites; 54 fountains, and 8 misting areas. Additionally, 77 free drinking water fountains have been documented.

In case the prefect triggers level 2 of the plan, known as the “warning,” this list of locations will be communicated to the entire population. Administrative sites, associations, businesses… all will be invited to display this list.

Breaking Isolation

All municipal staff, the Communal Social Action Center (CCAS), and the University Hospital Center (CHU) have been specifically made aware of the risks associated with heatwaves. In addition, a squadron of young people in summer jobs will be deployed on the beaches this summer to distribute sunglasses and flyers urging both residents of Nice and tourists to be cautious in the sun.

At the same time, the CCAS is tasked with identifying isolated elderly people (over 65 years old) and disabled individuals. To register, the person themselves or their relatives must call 04 93 135 135.
