The Cannes Youth and Culture Center (MJC) is hosting an exhibition by the Nice-based artist Louis Dollé in its premises from May 13 to May 21, 2011. For this occasion, an opening reception will be held on Friday, May 13, 2011, at 6:30 PM.
Since the early 1990s, Louis Dollé has developed his work around a guiding principle: site-specific creations using natural materials, built around stories and myths. As a painter, sculptor, and imagist, Louis Dollé explores the senses concerning the origin of man. In his works, he invokes Klimt, Rodin, Brancusi, and Giacometti.
It was on the beach of La Réserve in Nice that he created his first site-specific installation in 1991: he sculpted two Moai, evoking the monumental statues of Easter Island. He joined the art collective No Made in 2003 and has created installations in both natural settings, like the Arboretum of Roure and Cap d’Ail, and urban settings, like Cannes. It is “The Walking Man” (1997-2000) – a temporary installation at Place Masséna, that became the artist’s manifesto, as it is the intellectual reconstruction of life and knowledge.
