Matcha… What is it?

Japanese translation: ma = powder; cha = tea. Matcha is a very fine powder of green tea obtained from the leaves of tencha. After harvesting, the leaves are steamed, dried, stripped of their stems and then ground very finely between stone mills – unlike regular tea where only the leaves are infused. This preparation method gives it a vegetable and bitter flavor with an authentic profile!

Contrary to popular belief, matcha does not come from Japan, but from China! In the 11th century, after his trip to China, Japanese Buddhist monk Eisai brought back its tea seeds and popularized this drink among Zen monks to support their concentration during meditation.
