Four defeats, one draw, and one victory, with a mere four points, the “Aiglons” find themselves in the second-to-last place in the Ligue 1 standings, tied on points with Le Mans and Saint-Etienne. Needless to say, the defeat suffered last Saturday against Monaco (1-3) was likely the catalyst for this board meeting held on Monday morning at the club’s headquarters.

“I have decided not to accept the change in the club’s organization. I no longer wish to continue working with the majority shareholders who have questioned me.” This response from Maurice Cohen to Gilbert Stellardo, one of the club’s shareholders who had widely criticized the offseason choices of Nice, particularly regarding recruitment, without ever directly naming President Cohen. After Frédéric Antonetti and Roger Ricort, respectively the former coach and former sporting director, another senior figure of the club is departing while, for now, the new Nice coach, Didier Ollé-Nicolle, seems to retain the confidence of the remaining management.

Behind the scenes, this week, a board of directors and a supervisory board will be established under the leadership of main shareholders, Gilbert Stellardo and Marcel Governatori, who are expected to appoint a new President in the coming days.

On the sports side, the “Aiglons” will be heading to Saint-Etienne this Wednesday for the Round of 16 of the Coupe de la Ligue, hoping to break the cycle of defeat to avoid making a brief appearance… and then leaving!
