On Sunday, March 15, 2020, amid the coronavirus epidemic with France in stage 3, the French were still called to the polls. The first round of the Municipal elections took place in a rather anxiety-inducing climate, and voter turnout has significantly decreased since 2014. Here’s an overview of the results from the Metropolis.
Saint-Laurent-Du-Var : abstention rate of 63.69%
In the Laurentian city, the outgoing mayor Joseph Segura was re-elected with 54.57% of the votes (compared to 23.39% in 2014). The candidate from the National Rally, Bryan Masson, came in far behind with 13.67% of the votes. Patrick Villardry, a former deputy mayor, closely followed with 12.77%.
Villefranche-sur-Mer: abstention rate of 47.77%
In Villefranche-sur-Mer as well, the result was unequivocal. Christophe Trojani (LR) was elected in the first round for a second term with 82.76% of the votes. At the same time, he secured 24 out of 29 seats on the Municipal Council, while his opponent Jean-Pierre Mangiapan (DVD), in second place (39.43%), contended for 5 seats.
La Trinitรฉ: abstention rate of 50.62%
It took until after 11 PM to confirm the elections in La Trinitรฉ. It became official that Ladislas Polski (DVG) was elected in the first round with 59.56% of the votes. The general practitioner was already the main opponent of Jean-Paul Dalmasso during the previous term. The successor of the outgoing mayor, Isabelle Martello (LR), came in second with 23.51%, and Philippe Carlin (RN) received 16.93% of the votes.
Vence: abstention rate of 65.55%
With an overly high abstention rate, no candidate was able to secure a majority in the first round. The outgoing mayor Catherine Le Lan (DVC) came only third with 15.07% of the votes. Ahead of her, Regis Legibre (DIV) and Patrick Scalzo (DVC) were neck and neck with 25.45% and 23.38% of the votes, respectively. The green party candidate, Patrice Miran, obtained 12.92% of the votes. The residents of Vence will have to return to the polls next Sunday to decide between the four candidates and elect their representative in the second round.
Cagnes-sur-Mer: abstention rate of 68.84%
The same observation in Cagnes-sur-Mer, where a second round will be necessary to decide between the candidates. Louis Nรจgres (LR), the outgoing mayor, still retains a comfortable lead with 39.81% of the votes. Jean-Paul Perez (RN) received 16.61% of the votes while Josiane Piret (DVD) is just behind with 15.17%. All three will advance to the second round, initially scheduled for next Sunday.
Carros: abstention rate of 52.30%
In Carros, a second round will be required to determine the representative. The outgoing mayor Charles Scibetta (DIV) leads with a slight margin of 39.39% of the votes, while Yannick Bernard (DVD) received 35.11% this Sunday. The battle will be between these two contenders, as Marcel Duthilleul (DVD) is far behind with only 9.43%.
