Robert Injey (PCF): Sports facilities? Nice is lagging behind.

Latest News

A survey by INSEE on the PACA Region highlights the level of sports facilities and reveals a reality that all the residents of Nice perceive daily: the under-equipment in this area of our city.

Far from the speeches of Christian Estrosi, this survey highlights the lag of France’s fifth city. Nice offers only 14 sports facilities per 10,000 inhabitants, where Toulouse, Nantes, and Strasbourg have 25. Nice is even behind major metropolises such as Marseille (15) and Lyon (18).

โ€œGold medal in the โ€œAnnounced Effectsโ€ category, Christian Estrosi is last in the โ€œSports Facilitiesโ€ category,โ€ notes the communist elected official.

What the report says:

With 41 sports facilities per 10,000 inhabitants, Provence-Alpes-Cรดte dโ€™Azur is less equipped than the national average (50 facilities).

PACA thus has a higher density of sports facilities than รŽle-de-France (24) and Nord-Pas-de-Calais (32), other highly urbanized regions. Rhรดne-Alpes, however, is better equipped (51).

The major urban centers of the region are less well equipped with sports facilities than other major national centers: 27 structures per 10,000 inhabitants in PACA, compared to 33 in France. Thus, Marseille offers its population only 15 facilities per 10,000 inhabitants, compared to 18 for Lyon.

Similarly, Nice offers 14, compared to 25 in Toulouse, Nantes, or Strasbourg. This deficit is pronounced for the most common sports facilities: football and rugby fields, gyms, or multipurpose halls.
