Rudy Salles (UDI) My wishes for 2016? More reformism and less dogmatism.

The year has been full of serious events that everyone knows about and which we wonโ€™t go over again, but above all, Rudy Salles wants to highlight his parliamentary work which has seen him actively engaged on numerous issues: education with a report on social diversity and the fight against inequalities in which numerous innovative proposals are offered, the result of successful experiments from other countries and to come, video games, a sector where French expertise is undeniable but could face setbacks without the adoption of appropriate measures.

On the ground, in his constituency, the departmental centrist leader always highlighted an initiative dear to him: the “mobile office,” which travels throughout the area to facilitate contact with the population: over 250 people were received in 2015.

Always an advocate of grassroots politics, through the parliamentary reserve, more than 80 organizations are supported, including neighborhood committees and sports associations.

2015 was the year of two electoral consultations, the departmental in March and the regional elections more recently.

On both occasions, Rudy Salles made the right choices: as a loyal ally of the right, he reaped significant benefits: 7 departmental counselors and 3 regional counselors are a fine reward that makes public engagement appealing.

In charge of the portfolios for tourism, international relations, and regional activities at the Nice City Hall, the centrist elected official confirmed the healthy state of the tourism economy but remains realistic about international competition: while Nice is a very prestigious name, resting on one’s laurels is not an option. Other competitors are also on the move, and clients need to be sought at their locations through an innovative promotional policy. Cultural exchanges with twin cities can be important assets: this year, the Nice Opera Choir will be traveling to China and the Philippines. This will be an opportunity to showcase the qualities of Nice and its environment.

The Carnival, Nice’s number one postcard, will be held as planned, with reinforced security forces ensuring effective control from a security standpoint.

Similarly, as tradition dictates, the May Festival will once again embrace even more local folkloric traditions with numerous entertainment venues spread throughout the city’s neighborhoods.

Two typically political topics could not be missing in this overview: the right’s primary in the fall and Christian Estrosi’s succession at the City Hall after his departure to Marseille to preside over the regional authority.

In the first case, even though the internal debate within the UDI will conclude in March following the party’s set schedule, Rudy Salles is entirely in favor of participation: for him, there is no doubt; to defeat the left and the far-right in 2017, the right and center must present a single candidate.

On the city hall side, there’s no subtlety in his response either: it will be Christian Estrosi, elected by the people of Nice in 2014, who will have the legitimacy to choose his replacement. Is he available? Yes. Does he think about it while shaving? No.

Furthermore, it seems unrealistic to think that the Republicans would allow the fifth-largest city in France’s city hall to fall into the hands of a representative from another party, even if it were an allied party.

There is no doubt that the future ex-mayor of Nice will keep a vigilant eye on his city, besides influencing decisions as a municipal councilor. Additionally, as President of the Metropole, he will have control over many dossiers for which competencies have been transferred to him.

In fact, the municipal council will be presided over by a delegate who will have to implement the decisions made by the true mayor who will remain Christian Estrosi.

In such cases, it’s better to think about something else.

Finally, France, this eternal patient or purported to be so.

There too, nothing really new. The French are in distress and have lost all hope: the economic and social situation is severely negative, the Government is at fault, salvation will come from change.

The record is always the same…and to think there is still a year and a half left!
