Around ten days after Storm Aline, it is Storm Ciaran’s turn to pass through the Alpes-Maritimes department on November 2nd.

During the night of November 1st to 2nd, Storm Ciaran struck western Brittany and the Cotentin with violent winds, gusts reaching up to 207km/h, and heavy rain, causing the death of a truck driver in Aisne and leaving 1.2 million households without electricity.

Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, announced at midday 15 minor injuries, including 7 firefighters, and one person seriously injured in Roubaix.

While no French department has been on red alert for violent winds since 10 AM on November 2nd, the storm is expected to pass through the Alpes-Maritimes and Var this afternoon. Thus, the two departments have been placed on orange alert for “waves-submersion marine” by Météo France, starting from Thursday, November 2nd, from 2 PM to midnight.

Christian Estrosi will activate the vigilance unit of the Communal PC at the Town Hall at 2 PM. From this time, the beaches will be closed. The coastal path, already inaccessible since yesterday, will remain so.

To protect the population, the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture and the city of Nice have shared some recommendations. It is advised to stay away from trees and yards, take shelter in a sturdy building, avoid traveling and stay informed, not to use your car or go into a basement, protect items exposed to wind or that could be flooded, and to avoid using your phone and electrical devices.
