Claudio Pazienza, an Italo-Belgian multilingual filmmaker, advocates for a joyful knowledge. The titles of his films (โMoney Told to Children and Their Parents,โ โSpirit of Beer,โ โWild Boar Hunting Sceneโ) indicate how much his filmography invents “funny” situations. Go discover the “cinema of artists” around Claudio Pazienza from November 9 to 12, 2011, at Villa Arson.
Blurring genres and narrative levels, Claudio Pazienza creates films of striking originality for the viewer, who is sensitive to his freedom of tone, his formal and narrative inventions, and above all, his humor.
In this program, the question of identity and origin will be answered through the form of autobiography and self-portrait, with inspirations nourished by painting and literature, expanding the documentary genre beyond direct cinema.
Following Frรฉdรฉric Sabouraud, a specialist in documentary cinema, Mathilde Roman, an expert in video art, will engage in a conversation with the filmmaker to highlight the intersections between contemporary art and documentary in his work.
The carte blanche offered to Claudio Pazienza will be an opportunity to (re)discover the famous film by Parajanov, โSayat Nova,โ and explore a subtle side of English social cinema, with filmmakers (Terence Davies and Bill Douglas) expressing more poetic and personal styles than Ken Loach.
