On the occasion of the last meeting of the season, the best triathletes in the world will compete this Sunday, September 29, in Nice during the grand finale of the Grand Prix F.F.TRI., the French D1 club championship.
International high-level athletes will provide a true spectacle on the Promenade des Anglais. This major end-of-season event will also welcome amateur athletes who can participate in the Distance M event (olympic format: 1500 meters of swimming, 40km of cycling, and 10km of running) individually or in relay.
More than 1000 triathletes are already expected in the Baie des Anges on Sunday, September 29.
The Nice event, the finale of the Grand Prix F.F.TRI., will award the titles of French club champions of D1. This fifth and final stage of the season will be contested over a distance S (750m of swimming / 20Km of cycling / 5Km of running).
The greatest triathletes worldwide, most of whom are licensed in French clubs, compete on the national circuit: the British brothers Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee, who were titled at the London Olympic Games, the Spaniard Javier Gomez, the Italian Alessandro Fabian, Richard Murray, and more. On the women’s side, the lineup promises to be strong with New Zealander Andrea Hewitt, Irishwoman Aileen Morisson, and Brazilian Pamela Olievera.
Top French triathletes will be present. Vincent Luis, Aurélien Raphaël, David Hauss, Tony Moulai, Pierre Le Corre, and Jessica Harrison have already confirmed their attendance. The stakes will be high for the French as this race will award the 2013 French triathlon champion titles individually. The first French athlete to cross the finish line will be crowned French Champion.
In addition to being an elite event, the Nice-Côte d’Azur triathlon is accessible to everyone. On Sunday, September 29, amateur triathletes will participate in the Grand Public race individually or in relay over a distance M (1500 meters of swimming / 40km of cycling / 10km of running). This event will also serve as the basis for the French championship by age group. To date, organizers have recorded 1033 individual registrations and 19 relay teams.
As part of the F.F.TRI. Feminization Plan – whose goal is to promote the role of women in triathlon – the Nice Côte d’Azur Triathlon is implementing a plan to facilitate access to the discipline. A 100% female start is reserved to prevent jostling, a photo exhibition “Women Athletes” will be offered in the Triathlon village, and famous sportswomen will feature in the tri-relay.
To date, swimmer Malia Metella and cyclist Marion Clignet have accepted the challenge. Pauline Ferrand-Prevot will also take part. The day before, a round table on the theme “Diversity as a development lever” will be organized by the French Triathlon Federation.
