The CDOS 06 is organizing, as part of the Azur Sport Film Festival (FICTS), a symposium on the theme: “What makes referees run?” This event will explore the choices, motivations, ambitions, issues, and challenges of sports officials this Friday, September 29, at the Museum of Sport (Allianz Riviera Stadium, Boulevard des Jardiniers) in the amphitheater.
The symposium will be centered around testimonials, clip screenings, and an excerpt from the upcoming film directed by Christelle VERON, “Amor l’arbitre.”
Speakers:
– Ms. Christelle VERON โ Reporter/Director
– Mr. Patrick Vajda โ President of AFCAM, former international fencing referee
– Mr. Claude COLOMBO โ Former FIFA international football referee
– Ms. Justine CATANIA โ Federal football referee, voted best referee in 2017
Moderator: Philippe MANASSERO, President of CDOS 06
What will be the program of this symposium “What makes referees run?”
Philippe Manassero: The symposium will be based on two main axes: the cinematographic aspect with the screening of several clips on refereeing and a premiere excerpt from Christelle Veron’s upcoming film “Amor l’arbitre.” We will also have a video conference with her from Pau, as she will not be able to attend tomorrow evening. The other axis will be a debate with three refereeing personalities to understand what currently drives referees to participate.
What is the link between FICTS and the symposium you will lead?
PM: The link is truly the film “Amor l’arbitre.” It is significant because no images have been broadcasted yet.
Why did you choose the theme of refereeing for the symposium?
PM: Every year, it’s necessary to change things up a bit. I am a former international basketball referee. I officiated for 21 years internationally and in the professional league, so it might have been something easier to manage. Also, having Patrick Vajda present, who is the president of the national multi-sport referees’ federation and also the only IOC member on a commission representing refereeing, helped in making this choice.
