Nice Premium: Nathalie Audin, how did Jean-Christophe Cambadélis’ visit to Nice go?
Nathalie Audin: We were very pleased to welcome JC CAMBADELIS; the visit of a national leader of such quality is always important for a federation. More than a hundred activists came, regardless of their factions. This shows the interest generated by his speech. The Strauss-Kahn supporters in our region know how appreciated Dominique Strauss-Kahn is in our department. Jean-Christophe CAMBADELIS, along with a few others including Pierre MOSCOVICI, is continuing the ideas left by DSK before he moved to the International Monetary Fund.
NP: What were the reasons for his visit to the Côte d’Azur?
NA: Jean-Christophe CAMBADELIS came to present the contribution “need for the left,” which was in the process of being developed at the time. It was, therefore, a meeting for work and exchanges.
It is now public since its first signatory, Pierre MOSCOVICI, and Arnaud MONTEBOURG unveiled it on June 29 in front of numerous activists.
Also called “discourse on the method,” this contribution is a real innovation in terms of its form and content. Besides the ideas developed, the most important of which, to my mind, being “real equality,” it involves the implementation of a strategy aimed at putting order back in the Socialist Party to make it an instrument for gaining power.
I invite all socialist activists to read it carefully and form an opinion once all the texts are read.
I take this opportunity to also remind everyone that the socialists have adopted their declaration of principles. To the French who often wonder what Socialism represents today, I invite them to read our declaration of principles.
It defines what being a socialist means. If they recognize themselves in our declaration of principles, they are, of course, welcome among us.
NP: “I prefer a good activist over a good manager.” What do you think of this statement made by Deputy Cambadélis?
NA: Even though I understand well what this statement implies, I only partially agree with it. We need both good activists AND good managers, and I do not believe the choice should be between one or the other. Besides, the contribution that Jean-Christophe CAMBADELIS himself calls the discourse on the method, goes in this direction.
I think that our future national first secretary must combine both qualities and should surround themselves with a competent team.
NP: What should we understand by “reconstruction” within the PS?
NA: I convey a personal sentiment. The impression that the old family house is in bad shape, that we love it, and that we need to rebuild it… Of course, we will succeed.
NP: Finally, how are the reconstructionists in the region structured?
NA: There are not, strictly speaking, regional or other reconstructionists; there are militants and members from diverse backgrounds who wish to move forward without losing the values that make up socialism.
Socialists who, above all, want to recapture power to put an end to this right-wing path that takes us straight back to the 19th century and methodically destroys all the social, institutional, and republican achievements patiently built over the 20th century.
Socialists who want to overcome their rather minor divisions compared to what unites them.
We wish to create 21st-century socialism. All those in this dynamic are reconstructionists. The model is not patented!
