“I am asking the Prefect to appoint a mediator,” wrote Paul Cuturello, president of the Socialist group and associated at the General Council of Alpes-Maritimes, on January 22, in a letter addressed to Francis Lamy, Prefect of the department. Paul Cuturello’s request was understood in some way, but the conflict is taking a political turn: Christian Estrosi, the minister overseeing La Poste, the trade unions (CGT, FO, CFDT, and SUD), and Jean-Claude Bailly, president of the public company, will meet on January 29 at the department’s prefecture to discuss a way out of the crisis.

Since the end of December, mail has no longer been delivered to businesses and households (the Thiers post office serves the Thiers train station area, France Street, Avenue Malaussรฉna, Cimiez, a part of the Promenade des Anglais, from Pont Magnan to the West and the mouth of the Paillon torrent to the East, as well as the Madeleine district). At the core of the Thiers post office employees’ demands: the reorganization of the routes known as “facteurs dโ€™avenir” (postmen of the future). The reason for this restructuring? To improve the working conditions of postal workers according to La Poste 06 management. But the postal workers do not share the same view. Instead, they see a deterioration in their working conditions.

Mediators?

This is at least what is suggested by communist elected officials as well as Paul Cuturello, Patrick Allemand, 1st vice president of the Region, and Christine Mirauchaux, Regional Councilor. Furthermore, Robert Ingey and Emmanuelle Gaziello, two communist elected officials, protested against La Poste’s management in a letter to Francis Lamy: “no negotiation worthy of the name has been undertaken by the postal department’s management.” In its blog, the CGT 83 affirms the employees’ desire to negotiate with management. In vain… The talks on January 29 between the Minister of Industry, Jean-Paul Bailly, and the unions are expected to be tense. We can imagine the determination of the unions to force Jean-Claude Bailly to reconsider his decision. As for the Minister of Industry, he should ask the president of La Poste to make concessions and find a way to restore normal mail delivery. Especially as he is also the mayor of the affected city. The debate remains open.
