For the 10th consecutive year, “Mars aux Musées” has been inviting young individuals from the French Riviera to explore the museums of Nice in a different way since March 7th. No fewer than 18 museums and cultural venues in Nice are involved until March 31, 2011. Discover ongoing not-to-miss events.
Mars aux Musées is a totally free original concept. Although open to everyone, “Mars aux Musées” is primarily an event organized by and for students, thanks to the support of the City of Nice and the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis. As every year, it is indeed the students of the Master’s 2 in Mediation and Cultural Engineering at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis who carry the project, supported by the City of Nice and the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis through the Directorate of Culture and the FSDIE, the Solidarity Fund and Development of Student Initiatives. All the numerous events offered are free!
At the crossroads of arts and with an approach focused on opening up to young audiences, “Mars aux Musées” has been offering, since March 7th, around twenty thematic evenings and afternoons that will mix, among other things, music, theater, dance, or visual arts. While the approach of “Mars aux Musées” is festive, its ambition is also educational. Throughout the duration of the event, the museums open up to the professors of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, who will be able to deliver their courses there thanks to a vast program of relocated classes. These will be accompanied by mediations around collections and exhibitions, specially organized by and for students.
“Mars aux Musées”, a university project
The cultural event “Mars aux Musées” is jointly organized by the City of Nice, the Directorate of Culture of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, and the M.I.C.A. student association. Over the editions, this student association has managed to gain the trust of institutions and museums that renew their participation in this event every year. The M.I.C.A (Mediators and Associated Cultural Engineers) association gathers every year the students of the UNS in the Master’s 2 professional Mediation and Cultural Engineering, Performing Arts, and Museology.
This innovative and unique Master in France, led by Paul Rasse, director of the I3M laboratory, aims to train the future actors of cultural life. They will then be able to elaborate projects, create links between the scientific team and the public, and intervene with various cultural structures. Like the European Union, this Master’s aims to be mixed, as it includes students from all backgrounds, both geographical (France, China, Turkey) and disciplinary (Communication, LEA, Art History, History, etc.) with atypical paths (professional reconversion and continued education). Finally, this teaching model is exported, as it exists across the Mediterranean, within the Higher School of Communication and Advertising of Casablanca.
Mars aux musées celebrates its 10th anniversary
A month of museums centered on students in Nice, such was the initial concept supported by the City of Nice, the Directorate of the City’s museums, and the Directorate of Culture of the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis, ten years ago. The target being students, why not entrust them with the organization of the event? Since its origin, it has therefore been incumbent upon the Master’s 2 students in Mediation and Cultural Engineering at the UNS. In 2001, “Mars aux Musées” was born, and the success was immediate. Since then, students can, completely free of charge, discover the city’s museums through a vast program of activities, conferences, and relocated courses. Over the editions, the project has been refined, developed, attracting more and more people, so much so that 150,000 visitors have already crossed the threshold of a museum on the occasion of this unique event in France. A successful bet all the more, as it rests each year on a team of motivated and annually renewed students.
It is not too late to go to the museum, as “Mars aux musées” only closes its doors on March 31. So if you haven’t gone yet, here are the not-to-miss events.
