Imagine an acrobat performing at the top of a 6-meter pole balanced on the head of a skater, or unicyclists tossing bowls with their feet that land on the heads of their teammates… At the end of the year, you can witness these phenomenal acts with your own eyes. On December 18, 2010, the artists from the Imperial Chinese Circus on Ice will be performing at the Rainier III Nautical Stadium in Monaco. The following day, you will also have the opportunity to admire them at La Palestre in Le Cannet. They transform into long fairies with almond-shaped eyes, divine messengers heralding a new dawn… Two hours showcasing a marvelous journey into the heart of Chinese history and legends.
A Troupe from Harbin
This year, the artists are not coming from Beijing but from Harbin, located in the northeast of the country. It is a city known for its snow village and international ice sculpture festival. Temperatures frequently reach -25 degrees during the day and -35 degrees at night. From November to March, rivers and lakes are frozen over by 40 centimeters. The ice does not scare them… Hence their familiarity with ice skates. The Harbin troupe is the first acrobatic ice troupe in China. True to its specificity, the Imperial Chinese Circus has retained the majority of the acts that have established the reputation and glory of the Chinese circus worldwide.
