First “marriage for all” in Nice: A most normal union

Latest News

Eric Adam and Marc Narducci said “I do” for the first gay marriage in Nice. A union celebrated far from all the commotion linked to the marriage for all law. A wedding like any other despite the presence of some police forces and onlookers.

mariage_nice-3.jpg Michel, crowded behind the barriers of the town hall, came out of curiosity: “I have no connection to the newlyweds. Through word of mouth, I learned that this wedding was organized. I think a lot is made of it for not much with this whole marriage for all story.”

In front of the town hall, a few journalists, about twenty police officers, and a few curious onlookers. Noteworthy is the exceptional presence of Michรจle Alliot Marie, former state minister and Vice-President of the UMP National Council.

Former colleagues of the couple are also there: “We wanted to be here for Eric and Marc. We used to work together at the town hall. We knew they were together, but we didnโ€™t think they would get married. We are simply happy for them.”

Together for 34 years, Eric and Marc leave the town hall with smiles on their faces. The commotion is there, thankfully, but not for reasons hoped by some or feared by others. Passersby take photos without always knowing what itโ€™s about.

A drift of an era where the slightest phone turns individuals into paparazzi. A group of tourists passes by and asks in English the reason for this gathering. One could simply reply: “Today is Saturday, a wedding just took place in Nice, nothing more, nothing less…”
