-From Monday, June 18 to Wednesday, June 20, 2012
The association Rhumasport, with the support of the city of Nice, is organizing an expedition to the summit of Mont Blanc with patients suffering from Chronic Inflammatory Rheumatism (CIR).
Rhumasport’s mission is to raise public awareness about CIR and demonstrate to those affected by these rheumatisms that sports, gymnastics, stretching, walking, cycling, and, for some, more extreme sports, can be a way to strengthen muscles and thus slow down cartilage degeneration.
Ø Eight individuals from Nice with chronic inflammatory rheumatism will set out to conquer Mont Blanc on Monday, June 18th. They will be accompanied by guides, of course, but also by rheumatologists, athletes, physiotherapists, a cameraman—a team of 24 people in all!
For several months, these budding mountaineers have undergone intensive training, either collectively or individually, with activities such as Nordic walking, cycling, rollerblading, and crampon courses… to fully experience this human adventure aimed at sending a strong positive signal to patients.
Chronic Inflammatory Rheumatism (CIR) affects nearly one million French citizens. It affects all age groups and is not associated with aging.
Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) particularly affects the spine and joints of young men (20-30 years old). Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), one of the most common types of Chronic Inflammatory Rheumatism, occurs in women aged 20 to 40 years.
