At this pace, politics in Nice will soon become a matter of law and jurisprudence. Will the courtroom replace the assembly chamber? Last Friday, Christian Estrosi was authorized by the City Council to take legal action against those who, in his judgment, criticize his actions by damaging the city’s image… leading to Olivier Bettati’s resignation. A resignation that continues to spark debate…
For Anne Boquet, the general director of services (a former prefect, she should know a thing or two…), Olivier Bettati resigned from his post as deputy, but his act is not valid on the grounds that it was not sent to the prefect… But to the municipal and metropolitan employees!
For Olivier Bettati, none of this holds: “As it involves, as I wrote to the mayor, simply leaving this majority and returning my delegations, there is no reason to inform the Prefect of the Alpes-Maritimes.”
But his response does touch a raw nerve: “I fear it is merely an excess of zeal from a senior official who does not act in the general interest of the community but solely in the political interest of his superior, Christian Estrosi.”
And now? Is a new dispute to be anticipated? Nothing more interesting or productive in sight?
Then we wonder why voters are deserting the ballot boxes…
