“Rediscovering one’s history within the borders”

Latest News

For three days, the Sarde Palace, a name that evokes history!, was the venue for the symposium “Defining and Crossing the Border โ€“ Alpes-Maritimes 1760-1947”.

Addressing the border over a lengthy period – nearly two centuries – is complex and necessary, especially for the Alpes-Maritimes.

From the Franco-Sardinian Boundary Treaty of March 24, 1760, which set the border at the Var, to the Paris Peace Treaty of February 10, 1947, which enlarged the national territory – and that of Alpes-Maritimes – to include the communes of Tende and La Brigue, our region has indeed experienced an extraordinary journey.

This symposium helped to put into perspective the historical construction of the border, its management, and the journey of those who crossed it between 1760 and 1947 through four lectures chaired by Ralph Schor, Professor Emeritus of Contemporary History, Marc Ortolani, Professor of Legal History, Yvan Gastaut, Lecturer, and Yves Kinossian, Director of the Departmental Archives.
