volot.jpg Marcel Volot, born on June 27, 1917, played with both the French national rugby union team and the French rugby league team as a hooker (rugby union: 5 caps; rugby league: 2 caps).

He was a prominent figure in Nice rugby, where he held the positions of player, coach, manager, and president, always with brilliance.

He was Honorary President of the Rugby 06 Departmental Committee.

Reaction from Christian Estrosi, Member of Parliament and Mayor of Nice, President of the Metropolis Nice Côte d’Azur:

“It is with great sadness and emotion that I learn of the passing of Marcel Volot. For many years, he was the dean of internationals, and I know he had the great honor of wearing the French national team jersey between 1945 and 1947, alongside such illustrious players as Jean Prat, Guy Basquet, and Elie Pebeyre. But for us, he was above all a great figure of Nice rugby, successively player, coach, manager, and president of the Racing Rugby Club of Nice. He also held important missions within the French Rugby Federation and was a fantastic ambassador for rugby in the South of France.

This commitment earned him numerous distinctions, including the gold medal of the City of Nice, which we awarded him in 2008. A great servant of French rugby has left us last night. To Liliane, his wife, his son Pierre, and his three grandchildren, I extend my most sincere condolences.”
