An unused wasteland on the doorstep of the Vallée des Merveilles will become a haven for families weakened by illness and/or disability. This place, the Château de Causéga, is dear to the people of Fontan and Berghes.

Unfortunately, it had not been used for many years. Many families are attached to this magnificent site, which for years hosted children from Menton in holiday camps and provided work for numerous villagers.

It is now the subject of a project by the Maison du Bonheur* for a social cause: to become a resource center for families with children, weakened by illness. The goal is to renovate the château to make it a resource center for families and also a structured activity venue around four hubs:

– A center for animation and training around health;
– A core of cultural activities;
– A local resource hub for associations open to all actors of the territory in order to facilitate its integration into the local fabric;
– A place for recreational activities accessible to all and adapted to different types of disabilities.

This project, supported by partners, aligns with the recent Social and Solidarity Economy law and aims to generate employment, a trading economy, solidarity, and public health through the interaction and pooling of skills and people.

It will create a dynamic in the village and the valley.

For the mayor of Fontan, the glass is more than half full: “An economic opportunity, jobs will be created, people will stay at the château, which will impact our businesses and companies. In the current economic context, it’s a real breath of fresh air for the village and the valley.

The presentation of the upcoming work will be made by the architect Michele Valinotti this Thursday, October 30, at the Fontan town hall.
