Until April 27, a retrospective exhibition of Bernard Taride’s work is organized at the Contemporary Culture Center Le 109.
This artistic retrospective is held in conjunction with the release of a book/catalog tracing the career and works of this unconventional visual artist. Born in Morocco, Bernard Taride settled in Nice in 1956, where he began creating visual art using nails planted on lacquered wood panels. Gradually, the artist moved away from wood to explore another material, the mirror.
And he never let it go. Initially, the mirror allowed him to highlight the contrast between the aggressive point of the nails and the fragility of the glass. Little by little, Bernard Taride started to incorporate other objects and create striking compositions. Rope, axe, vise, concreteโall become sources of reflection mixed with the mirror. Besides wall pieces and sculptures, the artist also creates “Crashed Portraits” in which he assembles photographs and mirror fragments to reverse perspectives and distort features.
The retrospective catalog is published by ARTSTOARTS, and 30 numbered and signed copies will be available.
