The coronavirus epidemic has claimed at least 28,457 lives in France since early March, with 90 new deaths recorded in hospitals within 24 hours, according to the report released Monday evening by the government. The epidemic has killed 18,112 people in hospitals.
The report from nursing homes and other facilities, which has not been updated since Thursday, remains at 10,345 since that date, according to data posted on the government website.
The number of severely affected patients hospitalized in intensive care continued to decrease on Monday, two weeks after the gradual lifting of the lockdown, with 1,609 patients recorded, 46 fewer in 24 hours, according to the report from the French Directorate General of Health.
The total number of patients in intensive care (all causes combined), which notably reflects the pressure on the hospital system, “remains high” with 5,600 patients, the same number as the previous day, stated the DGS in a communiquรฉ.
Additionally, 16,798 people remain hospitalized for a Covid-19 infection, 387 fewer than on Sunday. Since the start of the epidemic, 100,615 people have been hospitalized in the country, including 17,770 in intensive care. According to the report published Monday, 65,199 people have returned home, recovered.
