The number of job seekers registered with Pรดle emploi in category A decreased by 3.3% last month, which represents 149,900 fewer people compared to April, according to data published by the Ministry of Labor and Pรดle emploi.

The number of unemployed in category A (without employment) dropped by 3.3% in May, amounting to 150,000 registered, but it remains at the very high level of 4.426 million, following exceptional increases of 22.6% in April and 7.1% in March. As a result of the resumption of activity, this decrease “is notably driven by those seeking jobs in the construction and public works sectors, personal services, as well as transport and logistics,” highlights Dares, the statistics service of the Ministry of Labor.

This decrease in category A is, however, misleading, as it is due to the return of job seekers to reduced activity (categories B and C) with the easing of restrictions, after the initial transfer of these seekers to category A (without employment) during the lockdown.
