Agreement for Free Highway Access for Emergency Vehicles: It’s Signed!

Latest News

Yesterday at CADAM, SDIS 06 (Departmental Fire and Rescue Service) and the company VINCI Autoroutes signed the agreement allowing free access to highways for intervention vehicles in the presence of Charles-Ange Ginรฉsy, President of the Board of Directors of SDIS 06, and Pierre Coppey, President of VINCI Autoroutes.

The issuance of this highway badge is symbolic. It symbolizes a new friendship between the firefighters and the company VINCI. But above all, it is the first agreement of its kind. โ€œThis is the culmination of a strong commitment in favor of rescue services,โ€ emphasized Charles-Ange Ginรฉsy. An undertaking that Eric Ciotti, deputy of the Alpes-Maritimes in the National Assembly, had initiated by proposing this amendment. For him too, โ€œit is a source of prideโ€ to have succeeded in passing this agreement unanimously.

An agreement that seems entirely logical. Until now, firefighters and other intervention vehicles were reimbursed only when they intervened on the highway (accidents, etc.), but had to pay for all other trips. A significant burden for SDIS 06, with expenses totaling approximately 250,000 โ‚ฌ per year in toll fees. Additionally, intervention means are also very costly (1,500 โ‚ฌ for a road accident, for example).

This agreement will therefore allow SDIS 06 to cut its bill in half, as free access is implemented only for interventions. This results in a saving of 125,000 โ‚ฌ per year, which is significant, as it will fund the purchase of numerous equipment for the firefighters (purchase of helmets, fire trucks, emergency vehicles, etc.).

The end of a long battle

For Eric Ciotti, the originator of this agreement, โ€œit is the end of a long battle and above all a gratifying victoryโ€, considering the popularity of these amendments in the National Assembly. But it demonstrates progress that should continue to develop in France.

Pierre Coppey, President of VINCI Autoroutes, asserts, “we are going to standardize this practice across the entire territory.โ€ This seems normal, knowing that firefighters conduct about one intervention every 4 minutes and use the highway at least once or twice a day.

In total, 400 highway badges are being offered for the SDIS 06 rescue vehicles. An additional 255 badges will be added for fire trucks and others. These badges are synonymous with support and new cooperation between VINCI Autoroutes and SDIS 06.
