On Friday night, the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis obtained the eviction of illegal occupants present under the overpass of the metropolitan road 6202 in Nice.
Indeed, after dismantling the illegal camp on the port jetty, another illegal camp was causing concern for the city due to the dangerous situation faced by squatters: families and notably children.
The Nice judicial court found that the occupation of the public road domain, under the overpass of the metropolitan road 6202 in Nice and around the Digue des Français school, constituted a “clearly illicit disturbance and a dangerous situation” for the occupants and other users. Thus, the court authorized the city of Nice and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis to urgently put an end to this situation by ordering the occupants to vacate the premises.
Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, expressed himself:
“After the expulsion of migrants from the port jetty, I am pleased that Justice has once again ruled in our favor by ordering the expulsion of the occupants of the overpass who had settled there with children in deplorable conditions, thus causing significant public disorder and severe sanitation issues.”
Furthermore, he wishes that the mayors of France could proceed immediately with the dismantling of these camps:
“The procedures to fight against illegal occupations of public domain, which undermine the lives of our citizens, are too lengthy today! I am asking the Government to give Mayors, the local actors directly involved with everyday realities, the power to put an end to them, to ensure public order in all neighborhoods.”
