International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women: Nice Turns Orange

Each year, November 25 has become an essential gathering, bringing together professionals, institutional bodies, associations, and citizens in the rejection of violence against women.

The city of Nice is mobilized over two days: this Friday at the National Theater of Nice and Saturday on the Promenade du Paillon.


Now more relevant than ever, this international day provides an opportunity to put words to wounds, giving a voice to those who have taken refuge in silence.

In France, at least 10% of women are victims of violence, one in four teenagers reports having been a victim of humiliation or sexist harassment on social networks, and every 3 days, a woman dies at the hands of her partner.

In addition to a daytime shelter, a housing and social reintegration center for women victims of violence, a delegation for Women’s Rights has been created, and since 2011 a “women victims of violence” representative has led a municipal observatory on violence against women.

On this occasion, the city of Nice is launching a communication campaign on social networks and the tramway titled “Stop the Silence” and organizing two days of public events:

This Friday from 1 PM to 6 PM at the National Theater of Nice – Michel Simon Hall

Screening of a pedagogical short film “Tom and Léna” directed by Johanna Bedeau. This film, totaling 15 minutes in length, illustrates the consequences of domestic violence on children, systematic identification, as well as the care provided to the mother and child victims by professionals.

Dialogue with the audience in the presence of Maty Diouf, Deputy Delegate for Women’s Rights.

Performance by Nice-based rapper Kaotik: presentation of his latest music video “Strong Woman,” interaction with the audience, performance of some songs.

Saturday from 4:30 PM to 7 PM at the Promenade du Paillon (near the water mirror)

Since 2014, under the initiative of the UN, the official color of the “UNiTE to End Violence Against Women and Girls” campaign is orange, symbolizing a better future and a fairer world without brutality against them.

Three graffiti artists will bring out their spray cans to showcase their talent on canvases installed on the fences at the entrance of the Promenade du Paillon,

A mural that the public can sign on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women,

Nice-based rapper Kaotik will perform his latest song “Strong Woman” on the water mirror, accompanied by a ballet of water sprays.

At nightfall, the Promenade du Paillon will be lit up in orange, the color chosen by the UN as a symbol for this day. At the same time, several buildings in Nice will also be illuminated in orange: the greenhouse at Phoenix Park, the Bellanda Tower, the forecourt of the main town hall, and the south facade of the National Theater of Nice. These sites will remain lit at night until Thursday, November 30.
