PROGRAM
Lightgraff Performance – Friday, June 10 – 8:30 PM – Skate Park – Tournamy
This calligraphy, created from beams of light photographed in long exposure, is the specialty of Julien Breton, alias Kalaam. This young calligrapher had already won over the Mougins audience last year.
Since then, the calligraphic art of Julien Breton has been acclaimed in Dubai, where he recently received two bronze awards at the International Street-Art Awards.
-About ten renowned calligraphers will present their work around contemporary calligraphy, Latin, Arabic, Japanese, as well as mail art. This year, the Calligraphy Day welcomes for the very first time Henri Mérou, a specialist in school handwriting and a member of the association “En marge des cahiers,” which has been promoting the art of beautiful writing and the spirit of the letter for about fifteen years. Mr. Mérou will display a hundred notebooks from all eras, among the 40,000 in his possession.
Henri Mérou will conduct calligraphy workshops with a sergeant major nib every hour, and each participant will leave with their notebook as a memento. A two-hour workshop for the more dedicated will be set up during the day. Reservations for this workshop can be made at the library starting now.
Christel Llop, Bruno Gigarel, and Laurent Pflughaupt will create a cadavre exquis throughout the day, which will be unveiled at 6 PM at the closing ceremony of the event in the presence of the Mayor.
Tchieko Imamura, a Japanese calligrapher, will be present again this year. At 6 PM, she will create a large-format calligraphy. On this occasion, she will collect donations for the WA Association of Japan to support and assist Japan.
Marie Paturle will showcase her mail arts and the works of her students. She will also present the projects of Clément Rebuffel’s 5th-grade students who have taken calligraphy classes at the library.
Julien Breton and Stéphanie Devaux will also host calligraphy workshops, each in a very different style. Julien Breton specializes in calligraphy inspired by the Arabic alphabet. Stéphanie Devaux, a former student of Laurent Pflughaupt, uses more collage and painting.
Jane Sullivan will be the only illuminator among these calligraphers. Her workshops attract a wide audience and always fascinate children.
