Thanks to her quarterfinal appearance at the 2026 Roland-Garros edition, Diane Parry becomes the best French player in the WTA ranking published this Monday. The Nice native gains 37 places and climbs to 55th in the world rankings, approaching her best career ranking.

The WTA ranking published this Monday marks a change in the hierarchy of French women’s tennis. At 23 years old, the Nice player Diane Parry becomes the new number 1 French player thanks to her progression of 37 places, which allows the Nice player to reach the 55th world ranking.

This rise comes after a remarkable performance at Roland-Garros. The last French representative still in contention across all draws, Diane Parry reached the quarterfinals of the Paris tournament before losing to Polish player Maja Chwalinska, who would later become the finalist of the event.

The Azure Coast player now surpasses Varvara Gracheva, 71st in the world, and Elsa Jacquemot, 80th. The two players complete the French trio present in the top 100 this week.

A rebound after a complicated spring

The beginning of the clay court season had been marked by several early exits. Diane Parry had notably been eliminated at Rouen by Marta Kostyuk, in Saint-Malo by Yasmine Kabbaj, and then at the tournaments WTA 1000 in Madrid against Sloane Stephens and Rome against Léolia Jeanjean.

The Nice native regained confidence a few days before Roland-Garros by winning the Clarins Trophy in Paris. This victory created positive momentum at the best possible time.

At Roland-Garros, Diane Parry first upset Ukrainian Anhelina Kalinina in the first round after having struggled. The second round against American Ann Li was then perfectly controlled.

The third round was one of the highlights of the tournament. Facing Amanda Anisimova, seed number 6, Diane Parry achieved the second victory of her career against a top 10 player in the world. After a closely contested match, the Frenchwoman won (6-3, 4-6, 7-6) to secure her first qualification to the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam tournament.

Against Maja Chwalinska, 114th in the world and coming through qualifying (now 21st in the world), the adventure ended in straight sets (6-3, 6-2). Despite this elimination, the Paris tournament allows Diane Parry to reach a new level in her progression.

This performance brings the player closer to her best career ranking, a 48th place worldwide achieved in October 2024. Diane Parry is also assured of entering directly into the main draw at Wimbledon, where points will need to be defended after a disputed third round in the 2025 edition.

For her part, Loïs Boisson, former resident of TC Nice Giordan loses her position as number 1 French player. Eliminated in the first round of Roland-Garros after reaching the semifinals last year, the player drops 112 places in the WTA ranking and now occupies 155th place worldwide.
