On Saturday, March 28, 2009, the city of Nice will join other international cities, private companies, and individuals in an action initiated by WWF (World Wildlife Fund): EARTH HOUR, one hour for the planet.
That evening, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, nearly a billion people will make the symbolic gesture of turning off the lights. It is an opportunity to demonstrate our collective will to reduce our energy consumption and to commit to addressing the climate changes that lie ahead.
Several buildings and public places in Nice will be switched off:
– The faรงade of the City Hall,
– The hill of the Chรขteau,
– The public beaches located between the Opera and Boulevard Gambetta,
– The gardens and fountains of the Acropolis Palace,
– The gardens and fountains of the Esplanade du Paillon,
– The Fort du Mont Alban,
– The axial gardens, located between the Quai des Etats-Unis and Boulevard Gambetta.
This initiative is particularly important in 2009: it is indeed in December in Copenhagen that global policies to combat climate change for the coming decades will be decided.
