This is, without doubt, the perfect definition of this neighborhood which, besides being the oldest district of Nice, is also and above all the most picturesque for its architecture as well as for its evolution.

It was first one of the great working-class and popular neighborhoods of the City of Nice. Today, it has become the nerve center of numerous activities (markets, antique dealers, restaurants…) and businesses.
After having long been shunned by the Nice and regional clientele, it is now the meeting place par excellence, it is the corner that houses the best restaurants in the city as well as the typical Cours Saleya market which transforms into a gigantic flea market every Monday.

When you enter the old town through the many accesses located on Boulevard Jean Jaurès or the Promenade des Anglais, you cross a real threshold. Not that the large gates represent a border, but in the Old Town of Nice, there reigns a life, an atmosphere and an ambiance that you find nowhere else.
You let yourself wander through the streets and alleys going up or down, you let yourself be guided by your senses, alternately awakened by shimmering colors, the aroma of cooking or fresh bread or even conversations from window to window.

Come, come… Here, life is sweet and the days are as colorful as the evenings are lively, that’s the spirit of the old town.

**Monuments and visits:** We recommend the sumptuous Palais Lascaris, the Cathedral of Sainte Réparate and the Church of Sainte Rita, the Saleya market which offers its fruits, vegetables and flowers every day, making way for antique dealers and second-hand dealers every Monday, Rue Droite which has become the street of artists or the unmissable Castle Hill which overlooks the neighborhood for the greatest pleasure of children and parents alike from the old town and the Port district.

**The Artists:** These are artists of national and international renown such as Slobodan, Cabaret or Sosno who gather alongside a multitude of young emerging artists who seem to have found in the old town the ideal place to set up their studios and galleries.

**Food and dining:** it is the true paradise for gourmands. The neighborhood, which has over a hundred establishments offering cuisine or fast food, is the platform for dining in Nice. You can eat lunch or dinner there and, in fine weather, the neighborhood blooms with many shaded terraces that are quite pleasant during hot summer days. A few handpicked Nice names… Acchiardo, Lu Fran Calin, Nissa Socca, Le Gésu, September 22nd or Le Tire-Bouchon.

**Associations:** Jean-Pierre Asso heads the neighborhood committee and there is an association of merchants called Vieux Nice Renouveau.

**Music:** The rock of the old town is doing well and exporting itself very well. Thus, Chinaski and Les fées, two 100% Old Town groups – they rehearse there and some live there – have brought their Nice rock to famous stages such as the Eurockéennes de Belfort, the Francopholies de La Rochelle or the Printemps de Bourges.
