Organized by the local committee of the association “Neither Whores Nor Submissive” led by Zineb Doulfikar, this demonstration brought together over a hundred people as well as many political figures such as the Deputy Mayor of Nice Christian Estrosi, municipal councilor Dominique Estrosi, Maty Diouf, Mari-Luz Nicaise (The Greens), Karine Lambert and Fabien Benard (Modem), Frรฉdรฉrique Grรฉgoire Concas (Socialist Party), Eric Belistan (Democrats of AM) and Patrick Mottard (Nice Autrement).
Under a banner bearing the message “Equality of Women’s and Men’s Rights, Same Rights Same Justice”, participants settled for a good part of the afternoon under the benevolent Buddhas of Place Massรฉna to engage with passers-by and onlookers strolling through the square in Nice.
“This is a serious violation of women’s freedoms. When I learned of this decision, I had a hard time convincing myself that I was in France, a secular country.” Zineb Doulfikar, regional head of Neither Whores Nor Submissive, is outraged and demands the establishment of a Ministry of Women’s Rights. “The government needs to listen to what associations fighting in this area have to say in order to advance the women’s cause and evolve the laws.”
The protesters left with the firm intention of remaining vigilant to follow-ups on this case, which continues to provoke reactions as the magistrate behind this annulment has received threats, and the Minister of Justice Rachida Dati asserts that this decision “is a protective decision.”
A case to follow in the coming days… for better or for worse!
