“The Collectif 06 for Women’s Rights is outraged by the advertising posters used for the Nice Fair. The organization considers them to “reduce women (and men) to sexist stereotypes and objects” and to portray a superficial image of Humanity.
Thus, according to Collectif 06, this “sexist propaganda” proves that the fight for women’s rights, especially on the occasion of March 8th, is not only topical but also urgent.
The AdN association, which is part of the Collectif 06 for Women’s Rights, also reacted by criticizing the caption “dating from an age we thought was over.”
For their part, the Greens believe that “the association of the text with these photos borders on the salacious and reflects a sexism that degrades the image of the City of Nice.” “We discovered with outrage and a certain disgust, the posters of the Nice Fair 2009,” declared Mari-Luz Hernandez Nicaise, spokesperson for the Greens.
The “Green Women” requested that the officials of Nicexpo issue public apologies last March 8th, on Women’s Day, and proceed with the total withdrawal of this advertising avatar.
Paul Obadia, director of Nicexpo, finds this reaction disproportionate: “The goal is not to shock. They judge it as inappropriate for Women’s Day, but it was designed by a woman.”
In the face of all this indignation, most of the posters were quickly changed along the tramway route. However, some of these clichรฉs remain… in the tram cars and in the press.”
