The American company will open in May 2026 a new direct line between Boston airport and Nice Côte d’Azur. Three weekly flights are planned. This announcement is part of a strategy to develop the North American market for the Côte d’Azur.

Delta Air Lines officially announced last week the opening of a direct connection between Boston and Nice. The first flight will take off on May 17, 2026. Three rotations per week will be operated, each Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The aircraft used will be Airbus A330-900neo, equipped with Delta One cabin.

For Delta, this new route complements its network already present in Nice. The company currently serves New York JFK and Atlanta. The Azur airport is also connected to Newark, Washington and Philadelphia. The opening of this line between Nice and Boston marks a further step in anchoring the Côte d’Azur in the American market.

A growing market

The United States have become a strategic target for Azur tourism. Before the pandemic, American travelers represented approximately 9% of international visitors. This figure had dropped in 2020, before returning to its level in 2022. In 2024, the share of Americans exceeded 15%, or more than 660,000 stays.

They are now among the top three foreign clientele. They also rank first in terms of commercial accommodation during summer. American visitors spend on average more than 175 euros per day, more than double that of a French tourist. Their contribution is significant in shoulder seasons, particularly in May, June, September and October.

More than one American traveler in two arrives from the East Coast. The choice of Boston as a new gateway is therefore not insignificant. This university and economic city constitutes a natural departure pool for trips to Europe.

An old link between Americans and the Côte d’Azur

For over thirty years, Delta Air Lines has operated connections between North America and Nice. Over the decades, the links between the Côte d’Azur and American travelers have strengthened.

The region attracts through the diversity of its assets. Culture, gastronomy, shopping, coastline, villages and mountains offer a range of experiences concentrated in an accessible territory. This array appeals to clientele seeking stays combining relaxation and discovery.

Azur tourism stakeholders also recall the cultural and historical attachment of Americans to France. The Côte d’Azur symbolizes a way of life that continues to appeal across generations.

A collective strategy

Delta Air Lines’ announcement is not limited to opening a route. It is part of a coordinated approach between Nice Côte d’Azur airport, Côte d’Azur France Tourism and industry professionals.

A collective mission #CotedAzurFrance is planned for North America in February 2026. It will notably pass through Boston. Tourist offices, hoteliers and local stakeholders will participate. The objective is to consolidate visibility of the destination on long-haul markets, complementing nearby European clientele.

For Alexandra Borchio Fontimp, president of Côte d’Azur France Tourism, this announcement reinforces a strategy undertaken for several years: “I am delighted at Delta Air Lines’ opening of a new line between Boston and the Côte d’Azur in 2026. This is excellent news for Nice Côte d’Azur airport and for our Côte d’Azur France destination. It confirms our attractiveness on the United States market and is fully part of the federated #CotedAzurFrance mission that we will conduct in North America and notably in Boston in early February 2026 with our partners, tourist offices, hoteliers and tourism professionals. In this sense, this decision fully strengthens the promotion strategy of Côte d’Azur France Tourism on long-haul markets with high purchasing power, complementing our nearby European clientele.”

With this new service, Nice confirms its role as an international gateway. The airport is positioning itself as a hub for North American clientele, which among the most dynamic.

The Boston–Nice flight, scheduled for spring 2026, illustrates the adaptation of air supply to changes in the tourism market. It responds to growing demand and accompanies the rise of the United States as the primary distant market for the Côte d’Azur.
